JCAT is a six-hour introductory gateway into the SEELS Jolly Classroom Literacy Pathway. It begins with the foundations of synthetic phonics, introduces the five key Jolly Phonics skills, and then shows how literacy develops beyond decoding into spelling, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and writing through Jolly Literacy 1 and 2.

JCAT does not attempt to compress full specialist training into six hours. It gives participants an informed, practical introduction so they can understand the progression, experience the methods and decide how to continue developing.

JCAT recognizes that many teachers and learners use English as an additional language. Good phonics and literacy teaching therefore requires more than presenting letters and words: teachers must also listen to how learners hear, pronounce, understand and use English.

Jolly Classroom Literacy Onboarding

JCAT introduces participants to available Jolly Classroom resources across phonics and the developing literacy pathway. Participants explore how digital materials can support explanation, modelling, guided practice, review and application.
The goal is not simply to click through an app. Participants consider when the screen helps, when learners need oral interaction or hands-on practice, and how teaching moves from phonics into spelling, grammar, comprehension and writing.
In JCAT, Jolly Classroom can support:
- lesson preparation and sequencing;
- sound-symbol teaching and review;
- blending and segmenting practice;
- spelling, grammar and punctuation activities;
- reading and writing connections;
- visual and audio support for multilingual learners; and

JCAT is a SEELS introductory literacy support, orientation and
onboarding program. It does not by itself grant official
Jolly Phonics or Jolly Learning trainer status, replace official
Jolly Learning professional certification, or constitute a
government teaching license. Jolly Phonics, Jolly Classroom
and Jolly Literacy are Jolly Learning programmes and resources.

Before You Register
Why is JCAT now called a 6-hour Literacy Gateway?
JCAT introduces the complete learning progression rather than focusing only on app use. Participants begin with Jolly Phonics foundations and then see how learning develops through Jolly Classroom into Jolly Literacy 1 and 2, including spelling, grammar, comprehension and writing.
Is JCAT mainly a lecture?
No. JCAT is designed as a practical onboarding experience. Participants experience activities as learners, practise them, try teaching them, adapt them for local learners, reflect on the experience and consider classroom application.
What if I have never completed Jolly Phonics training?
JCAT is designed to provide an introductory foundation. The first session introduces synthetic phonics and the five key Jolly Phonics skills so participants can understand the basis before moving into the wider literacy progression.
Does six hours make me fully trained in Jolly Phonics and Jolly Literacy?
No. JCAT is a gateway course. It provides orientation, practical experience and an introduction to the progression. Deeper competency requires continued study, practice, feedback and further professional development.
How is JCAT adapted for Filipino and other non-native English-speaking learners?
JCAT pays attention to English pronunciation, listening discrimination, vocabulary, oral language, first-language influence, learner English exposure and practical classroom conditions. The aim is to preserve sound literacy principles while making teaching responsive to the learners actually in front of the teacher.
Is JCAT an official Jolly Learning certification course?
No. JCAT is a SEELS introductory literacy support, orientation and onboarding program. It does not grant official Jolly Learning trainer status or replace official professional certification.
How does SEELS support teachers after JCAT?
JCAT is intended as the starting point. SEELS encourages teachers to apply what they learned, reflect on classroom experience, continue deeper teacher development and benefit from relevant training and input from qualified Jolly Learning trainers and other professional-development opportunities.
Does the ₱2,500 fee include a permanent Jolly Classroom subscription?
No permanent subscription is promised as part of the training fee. Any trial, subscription or account access is subject to applicable availability, activation and licensing conditions.
